A charm pack. What to do?
This cute baby quilt 40" x 51".
In summary the requirements are:
- 1 charm pack (40 squares at 5")
- 1m of background fabric
- 40cm of fabric for binding
- backing and wadding to cover 40" x 51" quilt, add margins as needed.
Other tools you will need
Cutting mat. Rotary cutter. Long ruler for use with a rotary cutter. Neutral coloured thread for sewing with - I like the Aurifil ne50 (this is a lovely fine 100% cotton thread, and I usually use a grey). General sewing supplies (thread snips, unpicker, pins, iron).
Before starting please note all seams are joined with a ¼” seam (unless otherwise indicated)
Also it is a good idea to read through all the instructions before starting.
Leave 16 squares as is - so you have 16 squares at 5".
The remaining 24 squares, cut these in half. So you now have 48 rectangles 5" x 2.5".
Make 4 piles of fabric - each pile contains 4 squares (5") and 12 rectangles (5" x 2.5")
Join these to from 4 long strips, 5" wide.
From the background fabric:
Cut 3 strips at 4"
Cut 4 strips at 6 1/2"
Assembling the quilt
Measure the strips you have made from the charm pack. If they are not quite the same length, cut them all to the same length now.
Trim all the 4" strips and 2 of the 6 1/2" strips to this measurement.
Assemble as follows.
Measure the width of the quilt.
Cut the remaining 6 1/2" strips to this measurement.
Add to the top and bottom.
Quilt and Bind using your favourite methods.
This quilt is approx 40" x 51", I cut 5 strips of binding at 2.5".
